“Form follows function’ is not a slogan with which I concur. On the contrary, I find that forms complement and change the body and thus the emotion. Movement, so essential to and in the body, is just as important in my work. By bringing form, structure and materials together in a new manner, I try to suggest and realize optimal tension and movement.” ~Iris Van Herpen

Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen has just shown her Escapism couture collection during the haute couture week in Paris Spring Summer 2011. This is her second 3D printed fashion collection after Spring/Summer’s Crystallization. The collection is a collaboration between Iris van Herpen and architect Daniel Wildrig with the label .MGX by Materialise.
The 3D printed outfits are made at Materialise, the white pieces are in polyamide and made with the selective laser sintering process. The black piece is also 3D printed in polyamide and finished in black lacquer. (via 3D printed collection by Iris van Herpen | TRIANGULATION BLOG)

In addition to working with United Nude on a shoe titled Fang, Micro also saw van Herpen collaborating with designer Stephen Jones, artist Bart Hess, architect Isaie Bloch, and graphic designer Tara Doughans.
Fabrication of the Isaie Bloch assisted design was achieved on 3D printers at Materialise’s Belgian headquarters (using laser sintering),  metal plating giving the appearance of antique bronze to the final product.
